Most jail films are basically a similar story told with various characters. Generally the hero is indicted for a wrongdoing (which he did or didn’t do), is shipped off jail and finds that they need to either adjust to their merciless new environmental factors or pass on. Partners are won, foes are made, demise hides around the bend. “Criminal” is the same yet three things raise it above most others.
